Computer Test

Note: I know it is still 10th of June, but due to "unpredictable special circumstance", I am back for blogging.

Today just done my Biochemistry computer test (компьютерные тестирование). Well, it is actually just a MCQ test that will be done in the computer. This MCQ test is not like what we did in PMR or SPM in Malaysia. In Malaysia, what we did is, study everything, then on that day we will sit for the test. But is not like that in this place. We have the questions already, total of 590 questions with answers. What you need to do is, read all the questions, memorise all the answers, then go sit for the test with 55 questions. The worst part is that some of the answer they gave is not quite correct, e.g. like "Pepsin hydrolyses casein" *. We all know that the answer should be "Pepsin is endoprotease", but the computer want the previous answer. So sometime we need to become a robot that memorise the answers, including the wrong answers.

*Actually that answer is not totally wrong, according to my Physiology teacher, there is 4 types of pepsin, namely pepsin A, pepsin B (gelatinase), pepsin C (gastrisin), and pepsin D (rennin, which hydrolyses casein)

Today after my Biochemistry class is Therapy, and we suppose to sit for a computer test also, need to read 405 questions, answer 50 questions. We suppose to do this test last week, but last week they said the computer system have problems and there are many wrong answers, e.g. the answer is (g), but there is only (a) and (b). They said they will fix the problem and we suppose to do it this week. But as expected from russians, the system still not yet fix, so today we just got there take our credit/zachut (зачёт) only, without doing the test.

Recently my 6th year seniors just sat for their computer test also, need to read 5000 questions, answer 100 questions. It is consider a state/national exam. To pass the test, must score more than 70%. The questions include the subjects from 1st year to 6th year, that crazy isn't it? If cannot pass the test, then cannot graduate. The worst part is, the people in dean office scare students cannot pass the test, so they offered a way. Dean will gave out paper with answers on it to every student, and the students can bring that paper into the computer room to copy.

"Isn't that cheating?"
Yes, it is considered as cheating.

"Don't have any officers or whatever 'jaga' the exam meh?"
Yes there is, but those officers also open one eye, close one eye, cause they know is too hard to pass, and they don't want many students fail. And you must know that Russia is a very corrupted place.

"On the first place why got this stupid exam?"
Don't know which genius created this system.

"If they know is very hard to pass, why don't they abolish this stupid exam?"
It is stated in the law of Russia Federation that all medical students must pass this exam in order to graduate. Since it is a law, it is very hard to change it.

But in Russia it is not just about computer test, computer test is just like a pre-condition before taking the oral exam. The oral exam usually have more than 100 questions, e.g. Biology 117, Biochemistry 128, Pharmacology 105. During the exam, every student must pick 1 question card which contain usually 3 questions. If you don't like the questions, you can change the question card but your final mark will be deducted by 1.

Marking system is very subjective. No such thing as CGPA, percentage, grade ABCDE, what they have is grade 2-5.
5 - Excellent (отлично)
4 - Good (хорошо)
3 - Satisfactory (удовлетворительно)
2 - Fail (неудовлетворительно)

"Isn't like a gamble of luck? If you studied 125 out of 128, then during the exam you got the 3 questions that you didn't studies, then you gonna get 2 or 3?"
Last time this is what I think, isn't it depends your luck? So some people said the exam here, 70% depends on your knowledge, 30% depends on your luck. But after understanding the sovereign grace of God, I know that there is nothing called "luck" or "by chance", everything is under control of God.
