Many Malaysians wonder how does a four-seasons country looks like, because Malaysia is located near the equatorial line, so is summer through out the year. Unlike Malaysia, Russia located near the north, so there is four seasons.
Autumn, the "orange" season. It is from September to November. The best season that I like. The famous Russian poet Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin (Александр Сергеевич Пушкин) also like autumn the most. The main reason is because the weather is cool, around 5-10°C, the ground is dry, there is cool breeze, is not too hot and not too cold. When going outdoor what you need is basically an extra jacket or sweater. The scenery is also very nice, the leaves turn orange and start to fall down on the street.
Winter, the snowing season. It is from December to February, snow will start to fall, and the best part is when snow cover everything, then everything turns white! So in Russia you can actually experience White Christmas.
Snow is nice to see, nice to play, nice to touch, but when you need to live with it, that it is terrible. Snow is not "solid" all the time, sometime when the temperature increases, and it will melt, become water, and water + soil = MUD. It is not fun to walk on mud, cause it will make your shoes and pants dirty. If the temperature rise and fall, that mean the snow will melt, then freeze into ice. So sometime there will be ice on the floor, and if you are no careful, you gonna sit on your butt! Some people don't like winter not because of the cold climate but because they scare to fall down.
What the heck is that? It is ice on the inner side (not outer) of the window. The weather is so cool until ice formed on the inner side of the window! Usually temperature is around -5 to -15°C, when extreme can drop until -20°C. So when want to go out, you need to wear extra sweater, thin bulky winter coat, winter boots, and if necessary, long john (thermal garment).
Did you notice the masking tape around the window edge in the photo? The windows in our hostel is very terrible, and the cool freezing wind will blow into the room during winter. So what we need to do is take newspapers or supermarket catalogs* roll it up and stuff it around the window, then tape it. In such way the wind will not blow in and your room will be nice and warm.
*The original method learnt from the russians is to put cotton wool rather than supermarket catalogs. But both will produce same effect, that is to block the wind. The reason we use supermarket catalogs is because it is FOC and cotton wool need to buy. =P
Btw the day time getting shorter and shorter, so when 5pm the sky will be as dark as 10pm in Malaysia.
Spring will be around March to May. For me nothing special about spring, in my opinion, it is just merely a transition from winter to summer. Snow start to melt, and when all snow melted, that means there will be many water, so many water + soild = MANY MUD. The street is very very muddy. Temperature will be about the same in autumn, but it give different feeling for me.
Summer will be around June to August. Summer, the season of love! Day time getting longer and longer. By 4am the sun will start to rise, and by 5am the sky is as bright as 8am in Malaysia. So sometime I want to wake up a bit later also cannot. The sky will only become dark by 9pm.
"Longer day time mean more sunlight, and sunlight will inhibit the production of melatonin hormone from pineal gland, and melatonin will inihibit the production of sex hormones. So longer day time > more sunlight > less melatonin production > more sex hormones > higher libido. That's why it is the season of love, and you can hear the cats meow-ing on the street."
This is what my Anatomy teacher taught me during when we study mid brain.
What I don't like about summer is the hot climate. The temperature can rise higher than in Malaysia. There will also be many insects like fly, mosquitos, and other weird weird disgusting insects.
It is normal to see snow during winter, but isn't it weird to see snow during summer? In summer there is something called "summer snow". You can see "snow" flying around in the sky. It will also drop on the ground and start to accumulate. This "snow" is actually pollens falling from the trees. But I don't know how these trees produces so many pollens until they can actually accumulates on the ground. To tell you the truth, these pollen is very very annoying, unlike snow, they actually will fly around when the wind blows. Pollen can cause allergic reaction (called hay fever) in some people. My skin is a slightly allergic to it (so it doesn't consider as allergy actually). When it contact with my skin, my skin will feel itchy. But thank God there is no other serious allergic reactions happen on me, e.g. rash, swelling eyelid, etc.
Although life in Russia is tough, although there is many down sides about Russia, but when I saw these scenery, I feel glad that God brought me to this place and make himself known to me.
"I will grant peace in the land, and you will lie down and no one will make you afraid. "

Amen.
