不要同负一轭

Do you know what is yoke? A yoke is a crossbar with two U-shaped pieces that encircle the necks of a pair of oxen or other draft animals working together, example, in ploughing the land.

However, in order for the work to be done, both oxen must work together, in the same direction. If either one of them walking to the other direction, or stop walking, the work cannot be done, since the yoke bind both of them together.

Do not be yoked together with unbelievers.
For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common?
Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?
What harmony is there between Christ and Belial?
What does a believer have in common with an unbeliever?
What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols?
2 Corinthians 6:14-16

So in the same way, we, as believers in Christ, should not yoke together with the unbelievers. Don't misunderstand what I mean. I do not mean that believers cannot befriend with the unbelievers. An ox can become friend with other ox. What I mean is a believer cannot commit into a certain task, work, or something else that required commitment, with unbeliever, since their direction and principle is different. A pair of oxen that are yoked together, if they walk in different direction, nothing can be accomplish.

A simple example is business. How can a believer work with an unbeliever, who willing to be dishonest in dealing business? Another example is marriage. How can a believer married with an unbeliever, when both of them walking towards different direction?

Another analogy is bird and fish (飞鸟和鱼的故事). How can these two creatures live together, when both of them living in different biosphere?

你们和不信的原不相配,不要同负一轭。
歌林多後書 6:14
